DAN BLACK: All Hearts Tour (Live At Webster Hall)
-
Our lovely friends at The Hours hooked us up with tickets to check out Dan Black on the All Hearts Tour, on which he appeared alongside Robyn & Kelis. The U.S has really only recently got their first taste of of Dan with the release of his album ((UN)) and the Symphonies EP dropping just a few months ago. That said, judging from the performance and crowd reaction last night Dan is heading down the right path for much deserved success here!
As usual Dan gave 110% and a super-charged performance of tracks from his debut. Starting out the night with an early set time of 6.55, the crowd was not a bad size but as he so rightly remarked, “We’ll take quality over quantity”.. and quality it was! Dan managed to quickly whip up the crowd into a frenzy, starting off what was to be a long night of dancing! This was quite the feat considering that many of them were only familiar with the odd track. Leaping around the stage with his war paint on and busting some killer moves, he tore through an array of electro pop/ hip hop infused tracks from ((UN)) in rapid succession, squeezing in as many as he could, and never letting the momentum drop for a second.

This show was a far cry from the equally great show I caught at Norwood for CMJ. At that show he did not have the luxury of a proper stage, he performed in a tiny room and took to what amounted to a soapbox so that the people in the back of the tightly packed room could see him! It’s great to see the developments of Dan’s career and at every step along the way hearing more and more get excited about him!

If you missed him on the All Hearts Tour but you’re in Chicago for Lollapollza you can catch him there! Don’t miss it!
